Privacy policy
DecodeThatVIN has no accounts and no forms that ask for your name or address. This page explains the little data the site handles.
The VIN you enter
- The free decode runs in your browser. For North American VINs the browser asks the public NHTSA vPIC service, which receives the VIN. Our own decoding rules are files on this site; the VIN is not sent to us.
- The last VINs you decoded are kept in your browser (local storage) so you can reopen them; you can delete them from the list. They never leave your device.
- When you open a history report, the VIN is passed to carVertical in the link, so the report opens for that vehicle. carVertical's own privacy policy applies on its site.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 only if you accept analytics cookies in the banner. It measures visits and clicks on partner links; the VIN and form data are never sent. You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” in the footer. Without consent no analytics cookie is set.
Affiliate links
Links to carVertical carry our affiliate code so carVertical knows the visit came from us. They do not identify you.
Hosting
The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes technical request data (such as IP addresses) to deliver and protect the site.
