Australia VIN check and lookup

Buying a car from Australia or one that was registered there? Check its VIN: accidents, mileage readings, theft and registration records from Australia and other countries.

We send the VIN to carVertical (our partner). The full history report is paid.

Where the VIN is

In Australia the VIN is printed on the registration papers and the compliance plate. On the car it is at the bottom of the windshield and on the door pillar; all copies must match.

Written-off vehicles

In most states a statutory write-off can never be registered again, and a repairable write-off needs an inspection before it returns to the road.

Japanese imports

Personal and grey imports from Japan may carry a Japanese frame number, not a 17-character VIN.

Used cars and vehicle records in Australia

Australia stopped building cars in 2017, when Toyota and Holden closed their plants (Ford stopped in 2016). The PPSR search shows, for a small fee, money owing on the vehicle, a written-off record and theft.
