Where the VIN is
In Ukraine the VIN is printed on the registration certificate (техпаспорт). On the car it is at the bottom of the windshield and on the door pillar; all copies must match.
US salvage imports
Look for an insurance auction sale, a salvage or flood title and damage photos from the US or Canada before the car arrived.
