Germany VIN check and lookup

Buying a car from Germany or one that was registered there? Check its VIN: accidents, mileage readings, theft and registration records from Germany and other countries.

We send the VIN to carVertical (our partner). The full history report is paid.

Where the VIN is

In Germany the VIN is printed on the Zulassungsbescheinigung Teil I, field E. On the car it is at the bottom of the windshield and on the door pillar; all copies must match.

Odometer tampering

Manipulating an odometer is a criminal offense in Germany (§ 22b StVG), but rollbacks before export are still reported. Compare the service book, the HU reports and the history.

Teil I and Teil II

The VIN is in field E of the Zulassungsbescheinigung Teil I; Teil II (the old Fahrzeugbrief) proves ownership and must be handed over with the car.

Used cars and vehicle records in Germany

Germany is the largest source of used cars in Europe: every year many are sold to Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and beyond. There is no free public VIN history service in Germany; the TÜV or DEKRA main inspection (Hauptuntersuchung, every two years) records the mileage on its report.
