Buying a car from Spain or one that was registered there? Check its VIN: accidents, mileage readings, theft and registration records from Spain and other countries.
Where the VIN is
In Spain the VIN is printed on the permiso de circulación, field E. On the car it is at the bottom of the windshield and on the door pillar; all copies must match.
ITV readings
The ITV periodic inspection records the mileage; for an imported car, compare it with the readings from the country of origin.
Imported cars
Damage and mileage recorded in one country do not show on the papers of the next. A report that searches several countries at once closes that gap.
Used cars and vehicle records in Spain
Spain is the second-largest car producer in Europe after Germany. The DGT vehicle report (informe de vehículo, for a small fee) shows the owners, the ITV inspections with the mileage, and any embargo or charge on the car.
