Where the VIN is
In Belgium the VIN is printed on the EU registration certificate, field E. On the car it is at the bottom of the windshield and on the door pillar; all copies must match.
No Car-Pass, no sale
Without a Car-Pass the buyer can have the sale cancelled. A Car-Pass only covers Belgian readings, so an imported car needs the foreign ones too.
Imported cars
Damage and mileage recorded in one country do not show on the papers of the next. A report that searches several countries at once closes that gap.
Used cars and vehicle records in Belgium
In Belgium the seller of a used car must hand over a Car-Pass, a certificate with the mileage recorded at garages, inspections and dealers; it has been compulsory since 2006.
