Buying a car from Sweden or one that was registered there? Check its VIN: accidents, mileage readings, theft and registration records from Sweden and other countries.
Where the VIN is
In Sweden the VIN is printed on the EU registration certificate, field E. On the car it is at the bottom of the windshield and on the door pillar; all copies must match.
Besiktning
The mileage is recorded at each periodic inspection (besiktning) and stays in the register, so readings after a sale abroad are the ones to compare.
Imported cars
Damage and mileage recorded in one country do not show on the papers of the next. A report that searches several countries at once closes that gap.
Used cars and vehicle records in Sweden
The Swedish vehicle register (Transportstyrelsen) is public: anyone can look up a car's status, its last inspection and its tax status by registration number.
