Russia VIN check and lookup
Buying a car from Russia or one that was registered there? Check its VIN: accidents, mileage readings, theft and registration records from Russia and other countries.
Where the VIN is
In Russia the VIN is printed on the СТС (registration certificate) and the ПТС (vehicle passport). On the car it is at the bottom of the windshield and on the door pillar; all copies must match.
Japanese imports
Right-hand-drive cars imported from Japan to the Russian Far East often carry a Japanese frame number (model code and serial) instead of a 17-character VIN, which a VIN decoder cannot read.
Pledged cars
A car bought on credit can be pledged to the bank. The notaries' public register of pledges shows it by VIN; check it before you pay.
Used cars and vehicle records in Russia
Since November 2020 new vehicles in Russia get an electronic vehicle passport (ЭПТС) instead of the paper ПТС. The GIBDD online check shows the registration periods, accidents recorded since 2015, whether the car is wanted and any registration restrictions.
