Buying a car from Italy or one that was registered there? Check its VIN: accidents, mileage readings, theft and registration records from Italy and other countries.
Where the VIN is
In Italy the VIN is printed on the carta di circolazione, field E. On the car it is at the bottom of the windshield and on the door pillar; all copies must match.
Revisione
The revisione is due four years after first registration and every two years after that; each one records the mileage.
Imported cars
Damage and mileage recorded in one country do not show on the papers of the next. A report that searches several countries at once closes that gap.
Used cars and vehicle records in Italy
The Portale dell'Automobilista shows for free the date and mileage of the last periodic inspection (revisione) of a car registered in Italy. Ownership and liens are in the PRA (Pubblico Registro Automobilistico), checked with a paid visura.
